Edina tops Eden Prairie for American Legion title

Both teams will represent Minnesota in the American Legion Central Plains regional tournament, which begins Thursday in Dickinson, N.D. Eden Prairie is the defending Legion World Series champion.

Denn hit a three-run double in the second inning for Edina, then drove in Matthew Hopfner with a fifth-inning RBI single to break a 4-4 tie.

Hopfner pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief to win for Edina (41-6). Logan Borg had three hits for Eden Prairie (31-12).

Saints lose

Jon Gulbransen pitched seven strong innings as host Gary beat the St. Paul Saints 2-1. Gary scored both its runs off starter Kyle Hurst, who was signed earlier Monday and pitched four innings.
