St. Cloud Cathedral pitcher Eric Pelant throws against Delano in the third inning of their Class 2A state high school baseball quarterfinal game at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud Thursday, June 14, 2012. Genevieve Ross/Special to the Star Tribune
One bad inning can be the destruction of a team and that was the story of this game. St. Cloud Cathedral exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning against a tough Delano opponent. That would be all the scoring in the game as the Crusaders would hold on to win by that 5-0 score.
1. Eric Pelant, St. Cloud Cathedral
Pelant was masterful on the mound throughout this game. Striking out ten with a mix of pitches that kept the Tiger hitters on their heels all game. He put a stop to Delano's best chance to come back by striking out back to back hitters and then inducing a weak groundout after giving up two hits to start the inning.
