ride a 5 game win streak into sections

After winning three straight last week Andover won their final two regular season games to end the season on a 5 game winning streak. The Huskies finished the regular season with a record of 14-6 and look to continue their winning ways as they head into section playoffs next week.

On Saturday the Huskies hosted the Centennial Cougars and posted a 8-1 victory. Andover scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings and blew the game open with a five run 6th. Nate Stong, Nick Weeks, and Brady Johnson singled to start the 6th. Patrick O'Donnell was then hit by a pitch. Davis Johnson then hit a potential double play ball to third, but the throw from home to first was mis-played by the first baseman and that allowed Brady Johnson to score. Brent Stong singled scoring O'Donnell and Wade Satzinger singled to score Davis Johnson. Kal Garmakers RBI fielders choice scored Kyle Gausman to tally the 5th run. Nate Stong pitched 6 solid innings scattering 7 hits and giving up just one run.

On Monday Andover defeated Park Center 6-3 at Park Center High School. Andover scored 1 run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Brady Johnson. Park Center responded with 3 runs of their own in bottom of the second on a bases loaded single by Budnick, a sac-fly by Lundholm and a single by Tyler Stroh. Andover scored one in the 3rd and one in the 4th while releiver Brent Stong held the Pirates scoreless. Stong pitched 5 innings, striking out nine and giving up one hit.

The Huskies rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 7th aided by a three base, run scoring error. Tyler Evans hit a squibber that was field by the pitcher whose throw to first went wide and down the right field fence allowing Wade Satzinger to score from first and Evans to advance to third. Nate Stong then hit a bloop single to left scoring Evans. The Huskies added one more on an RBI single by Patrick O'Donnell.

The 2012 regular season was a series of streaks for the Huskies. Andover won their opening game against Osseo but then dropped three straight to Maple Grove, Blaine, and Coon Rapids. The team then turned around and won eight in a row and that streak ended in their second three game skid against the same three teams that created the earlier losing streak. The Huskies look to extend there current winning streak all the way through sections and hope to advance to the state tournament.

The Huskies will host a Section 7AAA playoff game on May 31st at 4:30 pm at Andover High School.
