Red Knight pitching duo leads BSM to 17th win

Willie Falk and Marcus Barone combined on a no-hitter and John Backes drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning to drive in the game's only run as Benilde-St. Margaret's wrapped up a 17-win regular-season with a 1-0 win over Holy Angels.

The lone run of the game came when Jimmy Heck led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle before Gabe MacDonald and Bobby Papetti both walked on four pitches. Backes then worked a six-pitch walk from Will Style to allow Heck to cross home plate with the game's lone run.

BSM put runners on base in each of the first five innings but we able to get little going offensively, leaving six runners on base while hitting into three double plays.

In his best outing as a Red Knight, Falk worked into the sixth, allowing five walks while striking out seventh. He issued a free pass to Will Pagel to lead off the sixth inning, who moved to second on Bobby Sullivan's sacrifice bunt.

Barone came on in relief at that point and, despite Pagel moving to third base on a passed ball, worked out of the inning by getting a pair of ground outs.

He then worked a nine-pitch, 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out Jordan Black to end the game.

With a 17-3 record on the season, the 2012 Red Knights have already tied for third-highest win total in school history. They begin Section 6AAA play later this week with site, time and opponent to be determined Tuesday night.
