Cards Blank Maple Grove

5/15/2012

The Coon Rapids Cardinals played a rare away night game against the # 2 ranked Maple Grove Crimson where the Crimson rarely lose on their home turf, let alone get shut out.  In fact, the league leading run producer (currently 106) have not been shut out in over 2 years.

The Cards wanted to carry on the trend of tough pitching, timely hitting and flawless defense which has been seen lately out of the Birds. They delivered.

Logan Shore (Jr.) racked up his 5th win of the season by pitching a complete game 4 hitter. Only one Crimson hit made it out of the infield. Shore mixed his pitches well keeping the Maple Grove batters off balance at the plate. 16 of the outs came as ground balls to the infield, 5 back to Shore. Catcher Anthony Mrosla (Jr.) called a brilliant game mixing in Shore's 4 pitch repertoire.

Timely hitting and diving plays kept the momentum for the Cards. Bobby Smith(SS) and Casey Waterman (3B) made outstanding plays in the field and contributed at the plate. Smith had a key double and RBI early to put the Cards on the board. Waterman was 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs and a BB. Tyler Kelm (Jr., 2B) kept his hot bat rolling by going 2-4 with 1 run and 2 RBI. Kelm was solid in the field as well.

The Cardinals have now won their last 8 out of 9 games and have thrown 2 shut outs in their last 3 games. Coon Rapids will play their next game at Park Center this Wednesday, May 16 at 4:15 PM
