CRUNCHING NUMBERS

The introduction of BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) to NCAA baseball last season left a big dent in offensive statistics. High schools across the country are required to use the new metal bat standard this season.

Below is a look at the final season using the old standard, Ball Exit Speed Ratio (BESR), compared to the first season with BBCOR technology.

Runs: 5.58 per team per game (2011, BBCOR) to 6.98 (2010, BESR)

Home runs: .52 per team per game (2011) to .94 (2010)

Batting average: .282 (2011) to .305 (2010)

ERA: 4.70 (2011) to 5.95 (2010)
