Maple Grove hangs on for 4-3 win

The Andover Huskies lost 4-3 in seven innings at Andover High School on Wednesday, as a 7th inning rally fell short.

Starter, Brent Stong, held the Crimson down for the first three innings fanning 7. But Maple Grove scored twice in the 4th and twice in the 5th as Stong struggled a bit with control.  The Crimson hit only one ball out of the infield and instead relied on bunting to score their runs. Shay Torgerson's squeeze bunt in the 4th plated 2 runs, and a wild pitch and squeeze bunt, by Franta, in the 5th scored the other 2 runs.

The Huskies rallied in the 7th off relief pitcher Tyler Field. With one out, Kal Garmaker walked and Nick Weeks singled to left. Logan Quinn then tripled scoring Garmaker and Weeks. Kyle Gausman singled to right scoring Quinn. Roman Carroll then singled off new reliever, Shay Torgerson, on a hit-and-run advancing Strombeck, courtesy running for Gausman, to third and Carroll advancing to second on the throw.

Torgerson was able to strike out Nate Stong and Davis Johnson ending the threat, saving the game and preserving the win for starter Mitch Bauer. He pitched six shutout innings, struck out three, walked one and surrendered one hit.
