Perham at Barnesville (doubleheader)
4 and 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 25

It may be the final week of the regular season, but Perham and Barnesville still have a lot to play for. This doubleheader will likely decide which gets the top seed in Class 2A, Section 8 in addition to the Heart O' Lakes Conference title.

Five years ago, Barnesville didn't have a baseball program. Now, with its first crop of veteran varsity baseball players, including senior Cole Tharaldson and his .531 on-base percentage, the No. 11-2A Trojans (12-2, 6-2) have a chance to raise a banner for the first time.

Barnesville led the conference the entire season, but a 4-3 loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on May 18 has forced its back to the wall. The Trojans will have to win three of four games in doubleheaders against Hawley and Perham this week to take the league title.

The Yellowjackets (13-4, 8-2) make the proposition difficult. They've won nine straight, including a 9-8 thriller over No. 20-2A Pequot Lakes on May 16, and own three doubleheader sweeps of conference opponents. Jace Kovash had five RBI their last game, an 8-5 victory over Frazee on May 18.

This is Perham's second year in the Heart O' Lakes after moving from the Mid-State Conference, which presents the Yellowjackets with their an opportunity to win their first Heart O'Lakes title as well.
