Duluth Marshall at Breck
12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 9

Duluth Marshall opens its season with a trip to Golden Valley for a doubleheader with Breck.

The Mustangs are looking to fill the void in the batting order created by the graduation of their top five hitters, and the team has a talented, youthful pool of players - many with varsity experience - from which to draw, led by Nehemiah Kindle.

The sophomore has been playing on the varsity since the eighth grade and has shown he can produce at the plate, hitting .351 last year. He was also second on the team with 25 hits in the regular season.

Will Torgerson also contributed throughout last season. After a hot start, the sophomore cooled over the last five regular season games but bounced back to hit .375 in three playoff contests.

The Hilltoppers graduated six seniors from a squad that went 17-9 and reached the Class 2A, Section 7 semifinals before losing to Aitkin.

Senior catcher Tyler Pedersen was vital in Duluth Marshall’s 11-3 victory over Breck in last year’s season opener. He recorded three RBI and is one of eight returners who played against the Mustangs.
