Melrose at Pierz
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4

Melrose football has had plenty of success past two seasons, but the Dutchmen have their work cut out for them this week as they hit the road for a game against a Pierz team that has been a state contender three of the past four seasons.

No. 7-3A Melrose is led by running back Zack Pierskalla, who will look to continue his strong play after leading the Dutchmen with a 232-yard, three-touchdown performance in Week 2.

He will be facing a strong Pioneers defense that is coming off a game in which it forced six turnovers, including four fumbles.

Pierz ended last year with an overtime loss in the semifinals to eventual state champion Rochester Lourdes, and have come out strong this season. The No. 3-2A Pioneers picked up large victories over Annandale (38-12) and Maple Lake (35-0).
