7 p.m., Thursday, April 9

Defending Class 1A champion New Life Academy got off to a blazing start in the season’s first game, defeating Providence Academy in a 21-4 thumping. The offense looks like it will be led by junior infielder Brad Goulet, who went 4-for-4 with four RBIs against Providence Academy, and senior outfielder Sam Horner, who knocked in five runs in the win.

Heritage Christian Academy is also coming off a season-opening win, downing St. John’s Prep 9-4 on Mar. 31. Senior Ben Suits threw a gem for the Eagles, going six innings and striking out 10 in the win. Seth Halvorsen, Taylor Broderson, and Ryan Penshorn all had two RBIs for the Eagles.
